syncreon’s EMEA Marketing Manager, Fiona Lillis, completed the New York City (NYC) Marathon on Sunday, November 4th! The annual event is the world’s biggest and most popular marathon, and spans the five boroughs of New York. This year, over 52,000 people from all over the world completed the course.
This year marks Fiona’s third time completing the marathon to raise funds for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Ireland (OLCHC). OLCHC opened in 1956 and is the national center in Ireland for a range of childhood afflictions, including cancers, blood disorders, cardiac diseases, major burns, cystic fibrosis, clinical genetics and rheumatology. OLCHC is a national charity and the largest pediatric hospital in Ireland.
Fiona has fundraised for OLCHC through the NYC Marathon for the past decade, traveling to the event to support her participating husband each year since 2008. In 2009, she decided to put herself to the test as well.
Fiona says, “In 2009 I undertook major knee surgery and faced a difficult rehabilitation, and it was the perfect opportunity to set a goal to focus on getting back up and running as quickly as possible. I signed up for the NYC Marathon the same morning my surgery was scheduled. I came home having ticked the box on the bucket list, but quickly added a new line to complete it twice, which I fulfilled in 2017. This year, in spite of more scheduled knee surgery, I was privileged to collect my third medal in Central Park. While [the NYC Marathon] is a huge personal undertaking, very mentally and physically challenging, over the years I’ve gotten great satisfaction from my involvement and helping this charity raise badly needed funds.”
With support from family, friends and the syncreon team, Fiona’s NYC Marathon participation this year raised over €10,000 for OLCHC. Over her ten years of support, Fiona has fundraised over 100,000 euro for this worthy cause! Congratulations to Fiona for her incredible achievements!
